Chelsea Rothschild (she/her), CD, CLC

IMG_3443.jpg

Certified Doula, Certified Lactation Counselor, Childbirth Educator

*Currently not taking primary doula clients, but offers backup support!

Chelsea is a birth and postpartum doula, as well as a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC). A self-proclaimed “birth nerd,” Chelsea has been fascinated by all things perinatal since the birth of her younger sister, when Chelsea was just five years old. She took a winding path to birth work, including a career in engineering and finance and experience as a professional Swing dancer.

Today, Chelsea has two young children of her own and a passion for empowering parents to have birth and postpartum journeys they will cherish. She holds dear the belief that pregnant people are the experts on their own bodies, capabilities, and preferences.

As a doula, Chelsea seeks to educate and support her clients while instilling the confidence they need to fearlessly pursue the birth of their dreams.

As a CLC, she understands the tender and vulnerable feelings that go along with nourishing a newborn, and takes pride in helping parents achieve the feeding relationship they want with their infants.

Chelsea has a special place in her heart for expecting and postpartum parents who may feel marginalized for any reason, including pregnancy and birth complications. She believes that ALL parents deserve respectful perinatal care in which they have a voice, and works toward that goal with every client.

Chelsea’s clients can expect lots of individualized attention, evidence-based guidance, and a judgement-free listening ear throughout their care. They can rely on a strong analytical mind as well as a dancer’s faith in the human body to accompany them on their path. You can reach Chelsea directly at chelsea@peacefulbirthcompany.com.

Abby Shifriss (she/her)

Certified Full-Spectrum Doula, Childbirth Educator, Meditation Teacher

Hi everyone! My name is Abby and I’m a full-time doula, childbirth educator and Community Relations Director for PBC. I’ve been drawn to pregnancy and birth since I was very young and feel strongly that this work is a soul calling. I love getting to provide individualized support to birthing folks and their families across the spectrum of reproductive experiences. I believe that doula support should be accessible to all and that it should be a right, not a privilege! Reproductive justice is a core value of mine (and at PBC).

In college at Indiana University, I studied Human Development & Family Studies. This led me to work in behavioral and mental health, disability services, early childhood education and eventually, birth and postpartum work! Over the years, I’ve trained with a variety of organizations including Birthing Advocacy and Spinning Babies and have attended births and supported families in many settings and in several states. My first birth was that of my twin nieces in 2019! Since that time, I’ve been so grateful to gain a huge array of experiences working with clients from diverse populations. I have supported many home births, VBACS, Cesarean births, clients with complicated medical histories and diagnoses, unmedicated and medicated hospital births etc. I also love getting to teach our birthing classes and having all that hands-on educational time with our clients. It’s very fulfilling and honestly, a lot of fun!

I believe that community is essential and that being a part of a doula team is truly a dream come true. Our team approach at PBC allows us to best care for ourselves, hold space for each other and truly, best serve our clients.  It is my goal for all of our doula clients to feel supported, empowered and informed throughout their pregnancies, births and postpartum.

Before pursuing doula work full-time, I was also a teacher at River Song Waldorf School! I love getting to use my knowledge and experience as a teacher to help guide families as they welcome their newest family members and step into their new identities. Birth and becoming a parent are sacred and transformational experiences that deserve the utmost respect and support. All birthing people have a fountain of wisdom within—it is my honor to walk by their side and as they step into their power, birth their babies and ride the waves into their postpartum experience. It’s a privilege to use my skills as an empath and advocate to listen, to educate and to understand my client’s unique preferences and experiences so that I can help to curate a calm and empowering environment where they feel informed, respected and able to surrender to their birthing experiences.

I am both spiritual and I love science. I thrive on quiet time in the mountains as well as dancing at concerts! I am always trying to find more balance in my life and stay open to change and growth. I am an auntie of 3 little ones and it brings me so much joy. I love nature, art, yoga, music, gardening, reading and spending time with my wonderful partner, family & friends.

Some of my additional services include individualized guided meditations, energy work, placenta prints, story nights, watercolor affirmation evenings, belly binding and Mother/Parent Blessing ceremonies.

It is an honor and privilege to be invited into people’s journeys and birthing spaces and I’m still pinching myself that I get to do this amazing work!

You can reach me directly at abby@peacefulbirthcompany.com.

Dez Shallenberg (she/her)

Certified Doula, Licensed Massage Therapist, Reiki Practitioner, Postpartum Doula

*Dez is currently accepting postpartum clients. For birth support, please check out other doulas on this page.

My name is Dez, and as a mom of two awesome kids, I know first-hand what a wild ride the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience can be. In 2012, once both of my children had started school, I became a Licensed Massage Therapist and Reiki practitioner and eventually opened my private practice, Black Lotus Healing Arts. Somewhere along the way, I made the happy discovery that I LOVE working on pregnant and post-partum people. This, along with my unconditional love for babies, made getting trained as a Doula an obvious choice for me. As a Doula, I am fortunate to have the opportunity to use ALL of my skills (baby whispering, teaching, massage, energy work, cooking, and conflict resolution) to hold sacred space for birthing and post-partum families. I approach every assignment by asking myself (and clients) the following questions: "How can I best be of service to this family?" and "How can I leave this space better than I found it?" I let these answers guide my decisions and actions.

20210621_153150.jpg

When I'm not busy loving up babies and caring for families, I am a Massage Therapy College Instructor, a Reiki Master Teacher and Drummer, an artist, and a Self-Defense Instructor. All of these experiences help enrich my work as your Doula.

It is a privilege to be invited into the Peaceful Birth Company fold, and it would be an honor to be chosen as your birth and/or post-partum doula.

Tara Mathewson (she/her)

Certified Doula, VBAC, Social Worker

I'm Tara, a birth and postpartum doula that is also continuing education to focus on perinatal mental health and wellness. I began my love for perinatal care during my career as a Social Worker and my close work with families from all walks of life. It was after my successful VBA2C (vaginal birth after two cesareans), I knew it was my calling to support families in this space. A mom of three, I experienced three very different births. My personal birth stories taught me that it is vital you feel seen, heard, educated and empowered no matter the journey. I believe in supporting choice and birth preference. Whatever aligns with you, I honor. I believe that the body and baby have inherent wisdom that work together. My passion is to help birthing people find that deep wisdom within.

I incorporate my education as a Social worker; being trauma informed, an empath, critical thinker, active listener and advocate into my doula work. I integrate a holistic approach that weaves mind, body and spirit. It is important to me that I help the transition from pregnancy to postpartum go as smoothly as possible for the birthing person and their family. I am an advocate to change the current views and practices of postpartum care. I truly believe that just as much as the birth experience, the postpartum care and support you and your baby receive in the 4th trimester, are just as important. Outside of birth work. I enjoy spending time with my family. Colorado born and raised, I have a deep connection with nature and feel most at peace while outdoors. I love hiking, yoga, live music and cooking.

I am so grateful to be part of PBC and know you are in loving hands with this team!

Lydia Gabourel (she/her)

Doula and Reiki Practitioner

Lydia’s work as a preschool teacher, behavioral therapist, and nanny led her to the birth world. Her mission is to provide emotional and physical supportive care for families welcoming new life. She is a strong advocate for women’s equality and abortion rights, and a committed ally to the LGBTQIA community. Her goal is to provide and promote quality care and education to all birthing bodies of all ages and backgrounds.

Born to hippy parents in Vermont, Lydia has always been fascinated by holistic healing, herbal remedies and passionate about nurturing and empowering others. Lydia found her way to Colorado through her studies at CSU, where she majored in Human Development and Family Studies

As someone with innate passion for event planning and community engagement, Lydia is a pillar of the PBC community in her role as Events Coordinator.

When she’s not captivated by all things birth, Lydia enjoys taking dance class, horseback riding, and binging the most popular shows on Netflix. She loves the outdoors, swimming, boating, and camping and is eager to venture into the world of herbalism.

Kayla Lundstedt (she/her)

Certified Doula, NRP Certified, Certified Prenatal Yoga Teacher

Originally from East of Colorado Springs, Kayla started her journey as a birth worker about three years ago when she became pregnant with her first. She became infinitely curious in the pregnant and birthing body and mind and began immersing herself in research, scientific journals, documentaries, and books of all kinds related to pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Her journey through a difficult labor culminated in treatment for postpartum anxiety and OCD which, along with a Bachelor’s in Psychology, sparked her passion for helping others find resources for and overcoming perinatal mental health concerns. It was both the places where she felt her experience was the most lacking, but also the best parts of her labor and birth experience that inspired her to pursue becoming a doula. She doesn’t want the lacking parts to happen to others, but also wants the parts where she felt most supported and empowered to be experienced by all.

To add to her doula bag of tricks and with a love for movement and yoga, she became a certified prenatal yoga teacher. She believes that sometimes with a little guidance to get started, in both yoga and labor, the body and baby usually inherently and intuitively know where to go and how to move to work together in beautiful harmony. Also, if one or the other needs a little more assistance, she believes that clients should have the confidence to know they’re going to be truly supported and loved no matter which path labor decides to take.

She is passionate about helping families and birthing persons have an intuitive, empowering and supported experience and helping them to become educated about all aspects of labor, birth, feeding, and postpartum. She believes that community and utilizing resources available are the best ways of nurturing families.

Dakota Mulcahy (He/Him)

Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula

Im Dakota (he/him), a student of Breathwork, Yoga, Childhood, and the Ancestors before me. I have dedicated the last 3+ years of my life to studying, working in, and tending to, early childhood development.

Most recently, I found myself deep in the wisdom of postpartum support (through Peaceful Birth Company's Full Spectrum Doula Training, and Whole Body Pregnancy's Postpartum Doula Training). The dance of my two favorite worlds, early childhood, and tender space-holding. Within the sacred portal into parenthood, raw, tender, I am here to hold your hand. With my grounded, and graditude filled outlook, I commit to nourishing families in this sweet season of transition.

I am a queer advocate, gender affirming doula, serving all family dynamics. Trauma informed, and nervous system honoring. Passionate about body sovereignty, and holistic wellness. When not working with children, you may find me learning something new, making music, or in meditation. I am also passionate about food justice, gardening, and tending Mother Earth.

I would be honored to connect

Carly Neal (She/Her)

Certified Full Spectrum Doula, Herbalist , Waldorf Inspired Caregiver

Hello everyone. I’m Carly, and I am over the moon to be here for you! I trained as a doula through Birthing Advocacy and Peaceful Birth Company. I’m also a graduate from the Equinox Center of Herbal Studies, where I learned all about plant medicine. I am continuing my herbalist education with specialized coursework in fertility/pregnancy/birth and postpartum. I am so grateful to have the plant allies available for families that feel called to use them. The idea of becoming a doula first entered my heart seven years ago when I had my first child. I realized after a difficult transfer from home to hospital how valuable your entire team is. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and honestly that starts even before conception. As someone with years of experience as a Waldorf-inspired early childhood educator, I know how much I value community and how important that can be with a baby on the way. This became my life’s calling and food for my soul!

Birth and postpartum are such a sacred time not only for the birthing person but the entire family. Some of the best lessons I have learned in support come from my own life experience of 4 births. One of the most beautiful aspects about birth and postpartum is how different each one can look. All births are transformative, and we all have great power to journey through these experiences. I would be so honored to walk alongside you during this journey, helping you feel safe, informed, empowered, loved, nurtured, and so much more! I am here to guide you, teach you, and hold you both physically and emotionally. I am over filled with joy to be a part of the PBC family and fully trust you will be too!

You can reach Carly directly at carlypbc@gmail.com

Maggie Dalton (she/her)

Certified Doula, Licensed Massage Therapist

Hi everyone! My name is Maggie, and if you want a doula who is a natural born caregiver that will be a badass advocate, I’m your girl! I completed my doula training through Peaceful Birth Company in 2022 after feeling a pull to this career for a VERY long time, and I can truly say I am living in my purpose.

I have been a Licensed Massage Therapist for 9 years, specializing in Prenatal Massage for about 8 of those years. I received my MotherMassage by Elaine Stillerman certification in 2016 and plan to continue my perinatal bodywork education in working with the pelvic floor. I have also been working with children of all ages since I was 12 years old- I have nannied, worked in daycare, ran child music classes, etc. My love for littles lead me to my love of all things pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

Helping others to feel their best and have the best birthing outcomes possible is my passion! Everyone deserves to look back on their pregnancy and birthing story feeling like they were adequately supported, loved and cared for. I am also particularly passionate about health at every size and dismantling weight discrimination in OB care. I personally went through this being a plus sized person during my pregnancy with my son. My lived experience has fueled my fire even more to further my education in weight biased medical practices and help those who have experienced similar things. This truly is my life’s work and there is no where else I’d rather be than by your side through your journey of becoming a parent.

Some little tidbits about me:

I am a born and raised east coaster, born in NYC and raised in CT about an hour outside of the city. I have been living in CO since 2020 with my partner Andrew, and we welcomed our son Nolan in September of 2023. The peace that living here has brought me is something I wouldn’t trade for the world- but it’s true when they say, you can take the girl out of New York but you can’t take the New York out of the girl!

I am a singer/songwriter and it’s probably the one thing I’m just as passionate about as birth. I have been pursuing music since I was 7 years old (I’ve auditioned for The Voice 8 times. Yes, really.) If you’re a musician or a music lover in general, we will connect deeply and I would love to incorporate music into your birthing journey however possible.

I love astrology, human design, crystals, and all things spirituality. I deeply believe in manifestation and the power that the universe holds. I also believe in coexisting and honoring everyone’s belief systems, and I am always trying to expand my mind and learn about things that I might not be well versed in.

It would truly be both an honor and a privilege to be your doula. I’m ready to build a trusting relationship and be your safe space.

Hilda Yanez (she/her)

Certified Doula, Car Seat Technician, English/Spanish Bilingual

My name is Hilda Yanez, I am originally from Mexico, and have lived in Colorado for over 24 years. I am a mother of two boys (18 and 11) which I love with all my heart; they are my motivation in life. I have been working with families in our community for over ten years now, as a Family Development Coordinator at a resource center. Many times, I have helped single moms go through pregnancy and birth alone, being certified, now, as a Doula has given me the knowledge and tools to give my full potential and continue with my purpose in life. I have always been passionate about pregnancy and babies.

I am bilingual in English and Spanish. My favorite hobbies are hiking, paddle boarding and enjoying good food with my family.

“As a birth worker, I don’t think I’ll EVER get tired of talking about birth.” -Katy

And we know, when you’re preparing for a birth, it’s nice to hear first-hand accounts. So Katy shared her HypnoBirthing story!
