WHAT IS A DOULA?

A doula is someone who provides non-medical support to birthing people and their families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

What makes PBC unique?

We are passionate about birth justice and breaking the systems that result in birth trauma. This includes understand and dismantling systemic racism throughout perinatal care. As doulas, we have a special opportunity to affect real change in the birthing space through education, support, and advocacy. Every part of PBC’s doula training program is rooted in anti-racism and inclusivity.

Course Format

12 weeks of live hybrid classes (one class per week)
2 full day in-person trainings
Recorded classes available if one has to be missed

A close-knit community
Potential entry into the PBC doula group, gaining gradual access to clients and a robust team.

Doula expectations

Live attendance at 80% of classes
Commitment to advocating for birthing justice in the community
Completion of classes and assignments

Completion of reading list and book reports (books must be obtained by student, we provide PDF downloads when available, and encourage lending/borrowing)
Infant/Child CPR Certification
Shadowing 2 births with another doula (up to the doula to schedule)
Attendance at a PBC birth and bodyfeeding class
Willingness and ability to dive into on-call life once training is complete
Written assessment of birthing culture in your area
